Annual Leave Calculator FAQ
From when do I start accruing leave?
Workers with under 1 year of service accrue 1 day of leave per full month of perfect attendance, up to 11 days. Once you reach 1 year of service, you're granted 15 days, then +1 day every 2 years after that, up to a maximum of 25 days.
What's the difference between calculating by hire date vs. fiscal year?
In principle leave is calculated based on your hire date, but for administrative convenience some companies standardize it to a fiscal year (e.g. every January 1st). Even then, your first year must be prorated so you're not disadvantaged.
What happens if I can't use all my leave?
In principle, unused leave can be settled as leave allowance. However, if the company legally carried out leave-use promotion procedures (written notices at set intervals), the obligation to pay the allowance may be exceptionally waived.
Are maternity leave or parental leave periods included in the leave calculation?
Pre/post-natal leave and parental leave are treated as attendance and count toward your service period and attendance rate. Unpaid leave for personal reasons, on the other hand, may be handled differently depending on company policy.
What if my company tells me I have fewer leave days than I'm actually entitled to?
Granting less than the statutory minimum set by the Labor Standards Act is illegal. Ask your company to recheck, and if it's not corrected, you can file a complaint with your regional Employment and Labor office.
This result is a reference figure based on Article 60 of the Labor Standards Act; your actual leave may differ depending on your company's work rules or collective agreement.
